Rules and Compliance

OR-OSHA's rules are separated into divisions. Division 1 applies to all employers in addition to any of the rules in Divisions 2-7. Divisions 3-7 deal with specific industries. Division 2 covers employers that are not explicitly covered by Divisions 3-7.

OR-OSHA offers an e-mail notification service that will notify you when rules are updated (link will open a new window). You can subscribe to specific divisions or all rules.

For those who struggle to remember division distinctions, we offer:

An Ode to the Code

All workers here beneath the sun
Are covered by Division One

If industry pertains to you
Please consult Division Two

Construction workers, you will be
Enlightened by Division Three

In agriculture, know the score
As given in Division Four

Division Five, as ever, stands,
But comes to us from Federal Hands

While foresters do under heaven
Find guidance in Division Seven

O blessed codes, true and exact!
Fair children of the OSEAct!
In health and safety may we be
Kept in faithfulness to thee.
